Attracting More Deer

Taking down an Ohio Whitetail Deer is easier said than done. With so many areas offering rich food sources, deer don't have to concentrate into a small area for their food needs anymore. Because of this, you might not have as many whitetail deer passing through your hunting zone. While most states have regulations about baiting whitetail deer, it can be a beneficial tool for shooting your big buck.m So, what are some of the best ways to attract more deer?

During rut, utilizing eustress can attract large whitetail bucks to you. The eustress leads whitetail deer to believe there is a doe in heat in the area. Of course this time of the season, all that bucks are thinking about is finding a doe to mate with. Some hunters have put eustress scent on their hunting clothes, however this can pose danger should a buck follow the scent path to you while you are walking through the woods.

If using food baits is more your type of attractant, you have a lot of options. Corn and apples are two of the most commonly used food baits since they are easy to access and inexpensive. How you choose to offer the whitetail deer bait is up to you. Some hunters prefer a specific feeder, others just leave the food on the ground or a fallen tree stump. Either of these options work just fine. Salt licks are another commonly used attractant. These large blocks of salt are especially useful through winter as whitetail deer are oftentimes missing the minerals through the winter diet change. Salt also helps whitetail deer's bodies to adjust to the cold winter temperatures.

Wild found nuts such as chestnuts and acorns are a sweet treat for whitetails. If you live in an area where they can be found naturally, you can collect them but they can also be purchased. Purchased nuts tend to be chosen over naturally found because they are a new and different food option. For best whitetail attractant, you should choose nuts and acorns that are ripe since they are not bitter and have low acid levels.

Sweet fruits and vegetables are not commonly used baits, however, have been proven to be very effective. Sugar Beets are a sweet delicacy to a whitetail deer. While we don't suggest using these beets long term, they are an excellent occasional treat to draw them in. Fruits like watermelons, cherries, and even starfruit are also well-liked by whitetail deer. Fruit is best used late November through mid to end January.

No matter where you're hunting, from private land to a whitetail hunting ranch, using attractants is an easy way to increase your chance of drawing in a large whitetail buck.
